SRB launches Resolution Young Researcher Award: submit your papers for the SRB Economic Conference 2026

The Single Resolution Board (SRB) is launching a call for papers for the SRB Resolution Young Researcher Award, a research competition to be held during the first edition of the SRB Economic Conference, to be held in Brussels on 18-19 March 2026.

Up to 10 finalists will be selected and invited to present their papers in person at the SRB premises during the Resolution Young Researchers Workshop on 18 March 2026. Each presentation will be followed by a discussion with an academic or policy expert.

The committee will select one winning paper, which will receive the SRB Resolution  Young Researcher Award, including a monetary prize of €5,000.

Topics for submission

While submissions on all resolution-related topics are encouraged, particular attention will be given to research addressing the following areas:

  • Impact of bank resolution framework on financial stability and Too-big-to-fail (TBTF) problem;
  • Financial stability in resolution, including bank liquidity, deposit runs, and systemic fragility;
  • The interaction between MREL, capital buffers, and banks’ funding and profitability profiles;
  • Resolution strategies for medium-sized, cooperative and/or cross-border banking groups;
  • The role of non-bank financial intermediation and financial market infrastructures in crisis scenarios;
  • Emerging risks and the implications of digitalisation and technological innovation for resolution and deposit insurance.

Research with clear relevance to the Single Resolution Mechanism (SRM) and its objectives will be prioritised.

Eligibility criteria 

The call for papers is open to: 

  • Students who are currently enrolled in a PhD programme or Postdoctoral researchers who have not exceeded five years since the completion of their first PhD degree (on 15 October 2025), it applies to all co-authors;
  • Applicants with research written in English and relevant to the SRB mandate.

Current staff of the SRB or of National Resolution Authorities (NRAs) within the Banking Union are not eligible. Participants in SRB or NRA traineeships may apply.

Submission requirements 

Submissions should be sent by latest on Wednesday, 15 October 2025, and must include:

  • A cover letter explaining the relevance of the research to the SRB’s mandate and the conference theme;
  • The full paper in PDF format
  • A detailed CV;
  • An optional letter of recommendation (e.g., from a Ph.D. supervisor or academic mentor) is strongly encouraged.

Additional Information

  • Finalists are expected to attend the conference in person
  • The main findings of the selected papers may be featured on the SRB website and social media channels.
  • Finalists will benefit from direct feedback from senior academics and practitioners, as well as networking opportunities with policymakers and peers.
