Manuel Preto is member of the board of Directors, Deputy CEO, CFO and Chief Strategy Officer at Santander Portugal where he leads Financial and Capital Management, Strategic Planning, Accounting and Management Control, Economic Studies and Investors Relations, Taxation, Organization and Costs and has a leading role in the bank’s transformation process. He is also responsible for Strategy and Financial accounting and control across Europe. Previously he has also been responsible for T&O, Omnichannel distribution; Customer knowledge; Marketing, Daily Banking, Insurance, Digital performance, Mortgages and Personal Loans and Non-residents’ Retail Network. 

He is graduated in Management and Administration by Universidade Católica in Lisbon in 1996 and his career has been made at Group Santander.

Manuel Preto arrived at Santander in June 1996 as analyst at the Equities Research Department. In May 2001 he was appointed Director of the Research Department of Portuguese Equities where he was responsible for the strategic analysis of the Portuguese stock market and for the sales effort with international institutional investors.

He was appointed Head of the Financial Department in April 2005, which included asset and liability management, corporate finance, short term and medium and long term funding, financial investments, tax and investor relations.

He has been CFO of the bank since 2012 and Deputy CEO since 2019.

Golf is Manuel Preto’s favorite hobby.
