- Latvijas Banka hosts Single Resolution Mechanism Plenary Session in Riga
The SRB Chair and Latvijas Banka's Governor today marked 10 years of banking resolution and financial stability in Europe at a launch event in Riga, Latvia. The Latvian central bank is hosting the SRM’s Plenary Session in Riga on 26 and 27 June.
The launch is part of a series of events to mark the decade of progress that has been made in financial stability and protection of taxpayer money right across 21 Banking Union countries. The Single Resolution Board began operations in 2015 as the central resolution authority in the Banking Union. The SRB and the 21 authorities at national level form the Single Resolution Mechanism, the second pillar of the Banking Union.
“I’m pleased to be here in Latvia to mark 10 years of progress in promoting financial stability and protecting the taxpayer. As time goes on, the memory of the financial crisis may fade, but it is all the more important to reflect on the progress made. Thanks to the dedication of our staff members across the Banking Union, today we have a Single Resolution Mechanism in place across 21 countries to deal with failing banks, so that we can manage all crises. In particular, I want to thank our Latvian colleagues for their warm welcome here in Riga.” – SRB Chair Dominique Laboureix
"I am very happy and proud to welcome the Plenary Session of the Single Resolution Board to Riga! Even more so because this year we mark the 10th anniversary of the Single Resolution Mechanism, a milestone worth commemorating. In the next years to come, we must work together to make the Single Resolution Mechanism more streamlined, responsive and digitalised, integrated across borders and resilient to emerging threats and shocks. We must make sure that it grows, yet not in size, but agility, not in bureaucracy, but clarity and confidence, and is always trusted by the public, markets and Member States." – Mārtiņš Kazāks, Governor of Latvijas Banka.
The SRM will host a series of events to mark its decade of progress, including the SRM 10th Anniversary Conference in Brussels on 15 October 2025.
