Géraldine Thiry has served as Executive Director at the National Bank of Belgium since September 1, 2023. In this role, she oversees the management of microdata, statistics and the Bank’s data governance strategy, as well as banking resolution.
As Executive Director of the national resolution authority, she participates in the plenary sessions of the Single Resolution Board (SRB).
She also represents the National Bank of Belgium on the board of the Interfederal Institute of Statistics (IIS), serves as an expert at the National Accounts Institute (NAI), and contributes to the High-Level Task Force on the Integrated Reporting Framework (IReF).
Prior to joining the Bank, Géraldine pursued a distinguished academic career as a professor and researcher in economics. She holds a master’s degree in political science, two master’s degrees in economics, and a PhD in economics from the University of Louvain.
Alongside her responsibilities at the National Bank of Belgium, Géraldine continues to be active in academia. She teaches regularly at the University of Louvain, and is frequently invited to present her research at conferences and academic seminars. She is also a full member of the Royal Academy of Belgium.
