What skills or mindsets have you developed here that you think will stick with you long-term?
During my traineeship at the SRB, I developed not only technical skills about the EU institutional environment, but also a mindset that I will carry with me throughout my professional journey.
One of the most valuable lessons I learned was the importance of being curious, asking questions, and continuously seeking to understand the bigger picture behind my work. Working in such an international and highly specialised environment taught me to approach complex topics with an analytical mindset while also appreciating the importance of teamwork and collaboration.
I also became more confident in taking ownership of my tasks and contributing my perspective. The supportive environment at SRB showed me that learning and growth come from being open, proactive, and willing to step outside my comfort zone. These skills and attitudes will continue to guide me in my future career.
What surprised you most about the SRB community, and what made you feel welcomed as a trainee?
What surprised me most about the SRB community was the combination of professionalism and openness. I was excited to experience such an international environment, but I did not expect to feel so quickly included and supported.
From the beginning, colleagues were approachable, willing to answer questions, and genuinely interested in my learning journey. I felt encouraged to take initiative and share my ideas, which made me feel like a valued member of the team rather than just a trainee. This welcoming atmosphere was one of the aspects that made my experience at SRB so memorable.
How has the Blue Book programme influenced your understanding of EU institutions or your future career path?
The Blue Book programme gave me the opportunity to experience the EU institutions from the inside and to discover that there is much more behind the acronyms, meetings, and complex processes than meets the eye.
It helped me understand how different EU institutions, Member States, and people from diverse backgrounds come together to shape European policies and address common challenges. It was fascinating to see how European cooperation translates into concrete actions and meaningful outcomes that affect citizens across Europe.
