Christian Nowak is Director General at BaFin, the German Federal Financial Supervisory Authority, in its capacity as National Resolution Authority. He is responsible for resolution planning for the cooperative and the savings banks sector, legal affairs, data analysis and reporting as well as the bank levy and the national resolution fund. Previously, he was in charge of crisis management and resolution execution. He works in bank resolution since 2015, first at FMSA, the German Federal Agency for Financial Market Stabilisation, and since 2018 at BaFin.
Before joining public service, Christian worked for 9 years in the banking industry and as a strategic business consultant at The Boston Consulting Group. He holds a Masters degree in physics from the University of Heidelberg and a PhD in theoretical physics from the University of Mainz and the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research.
