Elke Koenig was Chair of the Single Resolution Board (SRB) from its establishment to January 2023. Prior to this, she was President of the German Federal Financial Supervisory Authority (BaFin) from 2012 to 2015.
After obtaining a doctorate from the University of Cologne in Germany, she spent many years working for companies in the financial and insurance sector. From 1980 to 1990, she worked for KPMG auditing and advising on insurance undertakings. From 1990 to 2002, Dr. Koenig was a member of the senior management of the Munich Re Group as Head of Accounting and Controlling.
She then moved to Hannover Rückversicherung AG as Chief Financial Officer. From 2010 to the end of 2011, Dr. Koenig was a member of the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) in London. While president of BaFin, she was also a representative of the Supervisory Board of the Single Supervisory Mechanism.
Dr. Koenig is currently a Senior Policy Fellow of the Leibniz Institute for Financial Research SAFE and member of the CFA Institute Systemic Risk Council.
