Helena Carvalho is a PhD student in Financial Economics at University College London. She is also a PhD visitor at the Bank of England’s Research Hub and an IFS Scholar. Her research focuses on competition and regulation of financial intermediaries, using both theoretical and empirical methods. Her current projects study banking regulation, deposit competition, and the market for derivatives. Her broader research interests include financial intermediation, corporate finance, and industrial organization. She is supervised by Saleem Bahaj and Frédéric Malherbe.
Prior to starting her PhD, she worked in the Financial Stability Department at Banco de Portugal and studied at the London School of Economics and Católica Lisbon.
