Matthias Haentjens

Since 2012, Matthias Haentjens is a full professor of Law at Leiden Law School, where he currently holds the chair for Civil Law. Matthias obtained his Master degree in Greek and Latin in 2001 at the University of Amsterdam, and his PhD in law at the same university in 2007. He was a visiting scholar at Université de Paris II (Panthéon-Assas), Harvard Law School, New York University School of Law and Ghent University. He is a member of the committees preparing the UNIDROIT instruments on Bank Insolvency and on Digital Assets, and was a member of the European Commission’s Expert Group on Securities and Claims. He regularly lectures and publishes on developments in European law, Supreme Court litigation and the legal consequences of digitalisation. He is a member of several international associations, including the International Insolvency Institute, the European Law Institute, and the European Banking Institute, of which he is Secretary of the Academic Board. Since 1 January 2023, he has rejoined De Brauw Blackstone Westbroek as an attorney (part time).
