Michael Faulend holds PhD in economics from Zagreb Faculty of Economics and Business. He joined the Croatian National Bank in 1997 as economist in the Research Department. In the period from 2001 to 2003 he was Assistant to the Executive Director in the International Monetary Fund. After returning to the Croatian National Bank, in 2004 he was appointed Executive Director of the International Relations Area. In 2013 he was appointed Vicegovernor of the Croatian National Bank, pursuant to the decision of the Croatian Parliament. He was reappointed for his second term in 2019, and for his third term in 2025. Vicegovernor Faulend coordinates and manages the International and European Relations Area and the Credit Institutions Resolution Office.
He is the author and co-author of several scholarly and scientific papers as well as various book chapters. He has been in charge of the organization of several domestic and international conferences in the field of central banking, finance and international economics. He participated in the process of accession negotiations between the Republic of Croatia and the European Union, and he was in charge of the euro adoption project in the Croatian National Bank.
