Since July 2019 Francesco Mauro is Head of Supervisory Review, Recovery and Resolution Unit (SuRRR) at the European Banking Authority. Ensuring the coordination of the activities of the EBA Resolution Standing Committee (ReSCo), the SuRRR Unit supports the EBA activities related to mandates provided by the Banking Recovery and Resolution Directive (BRRD) related to policy products as well as to the monitoring of the implementation of the framework (e.g. MREL monitoring) and of the functioning of Resolution colleges. He is currently the EBA representative at SRB plenary, CCP Resolution Standing Committee and FSB Cross border Crisis Management Group.
Before that, he has been official at the Bank of Italy since 1996, assigned to banking supervision. In 2008, he has been seconded as Financial Attaché at the Permanent Representation of Italy to the European Union (Brussels) and involved in EU negotiations concerning banking, insurance and financial markets regulations until the end of 2012. Back to the Bank of Italy he has carried out supervisory policy task at growing level of responsibility. Before joining the EBA he has been Head of the Supervisory Regulatory Division at the Italian Insurance Supervisory authority, supporting primary and secondary law process on prudential as well as policyholder protection matters.
He holds a degree in Economics (University of Naples) and Master's degree in Applied Economics (Paris, Institute of Political Studies – SciencesPo).
