Christos Gortsos is Professor of Public Economic Law at the Law School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and Visiting Professor at the Europa-Institut of the University of Saarland, specialising in financial regulation and central banking law. Inter alia, he is currently Vice-President of the Board of Appeal of the European Supervisory Authorities (ESAs); President of the Academic Board of the European Banking Institute (EBI); Member of the European Parliament’s expert group on banking resolution; Research Partner in the University Research Priority Program “Financial Regulation” of the University of Zürich; as well as Member and Academic Coordinator of the Committee on International Monetary Law of the International Law Association (MOCOMILA).

He studied, at undergraduate and graduate level, law, economics, finance, as well as international history and politics at the NKUA and the Universities of Zürich, Pennsylvania (Wharton Business School) and Geneva (Graduate Institute of International Studies, where he also obtained his PhD degree in international banking regulation). During the winter semester of the academic year 2017-2018 he was a Bernard Braudel Senior Fellow at the Law Department of the European University Institute (EUI) in Florence and during the winter semester of the academic year 2018-2019 he was Academic Visitor at St Antony’s College (Oxford University), affiliated to the Political Economy of Financial Markets Research Center. For the Academic Year 2022-2023 he has been invited as Visiting Scholar at the Faculty of Law of the University of Zürich.
